VW

Another cool little idea for VW Australia with the crew at DDB Sydney.

Art Director Duncan Shields and Writer Dave Shirlaw, mixed with Bryson Holt and of course the gang at freeway reps, were the recipe for a brilliant campaign!!

VW

I worked with 2 young creative’s from DDB Sydney, Daniel Ieraci & Simon Friedlander, on a brilliant simple idea for VW jetta

I was very excited when I saw this brief.

The ad’s deliver a warm friendly smile. It makes a nice change from the standard hi-tech/luxury messages usually called for in car pieces.

Something out Of Nothing

Initially, I had thought I might call this new series of images from Abu Dhabi, ‘Somewhere in the middle of Nowhere 2′.

It was a motivating thought while I was shooting. But they are different. And the place is so different to Egypt.

Abu Dhabi is a country that has literally risen out of the sands in 30 years.

‘It’s a place with no “middle”, just juxtapositions – ancient landscapes and modern structures. The additions feel like they were picked from a catalogue, then shipped in and rolled out with scant regard for the surroundings. It makes for a strange fit – as if half of what you see is permanent but the rest hasn’t quite stuck.  Added to this is a desert light like a soft flood, exposing everything in equal measures… and highlighting the incompleteness of it all’.

You can see the rest of the images from this series on my website.

North Otago Sth Island NZ

I was recently down in a very beautiful and under rated part of the South Island in New Zealand.

I was shooting for White Stone cheese who are a family run artisan cheese making company.

Amazing cheeses from a stunning part of the country

If you ever do find your self in the area, make sure you go and eat at http://www.fleursplace.com at Moeraki Bay

Remix Magazine

About a month ago, I shoot my first ‘fashion’ editorial in years.
Remix magazine have just released an issue celebrating Aotearoa
I shoot 2 iconic NZ models Penny Pickard & Ngahua Williams
Working in collaboration with a good friend and fantastic stylist Kylie Cook we shot at a Hotel in downtown Auckland.
Amber D did the makeup and my darling and sexy wife Arlene did the retouching.
The images look amazing in the mag.
I’ll be posting the full story on the website soon. In the mean time here is a shot of Penny.

DiRecting DebuT

I’ve had a fantastic and fun year.
Really busy, which I love. I’m a big believer that creating generates and inspires more creativity.
After finishing work on NZNTM, I worked with 2 very talented boys from Assignment Group here in Auckland, Josh Lancaster & Jamie Hitchcock.
They gave me the opportunity and an amazing amount of creative license to direct 4 x 15sec TV commercials for Lockwood Homes.
And I loved every moment of it.
I have to also say a huge thank you to my amazing producer Yolande Dewey & Director/EP at Exposure Kevin Denholm.
Thanks for believing in me

I’m feeling very excited about the next 10 years.

New Zealand’s Next Top Model

Middle of summer, in the middle of the day, sun directly overhead and getting in excess of 48 degrees NO shade.
We were in a very beautiful desert in Abu Dhabi.
To be honest it was a foolish time to be shooting, let alone to be out there.
But we were. The glamour of reality TV !
I didn’t really want to be out there in the middle of the day.
Everyone knows the best time to shoot is morning and afternoon, the sun is low, the land full of contrast and shape.

I had arrived really early that morning and watched the sun rise over the horizon, it was stunning.

Here is my favourite image from the shoot, and in fact the whole competition
Congratulations to the winner of NZNTM Cycle 3. Brigette
