New Zealand’s Next Top Model

Middle of summer, in the middle of the day, sun directly overhead and getting in excess of 48 degrees NO shade.
We were in a very beautiful desert in Abu Dhabi.
To be honest it was a foolish time to be shooting, let alone to be out there.
But we were. The glamour of reality TV !
I didn’t really want to be out there in the middle of the day.
Everyone knows the best time to shoot is morning and afternoon, the sun is low, the land full of contrast and shape.

I had arrived really early that morning and watched the sun rise over the horizon, it was stunning.

Here is my favourite image from the shoot, and in fact the whole competition
Congratulations to the winner of NZNTM Cycle 3. Brigette

Luerzer’s Archive Top 200

I’ve been selected for the 200 Best Ad Photographers of the world by Luerzer’s Archive.

That’s got to look good on the CV for a year.

I thought I’d show you all an early picture I took around about 2001, an image that was responsible for sparking my interest in shooting landscapes.
I’d love to see and shoot this again. I wonder what it would look like now through my eyes, 10 years later ?

Abu Dhabi _ ‘Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere’

I was lucky enough to get back up to the Middle East recently.

Such an amazing, inspiring and I find intense part of this planet.

The 2 things I love the most in this part of the world, are the light & the space.

I was able to spend some time shooting for my now on going series ‘Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere’

Here is the first image from part 2 of the series

BMW X5

Just finished off a project with Matt Simpkins from Draft FCB here in Auckland for BMW X5.

This was a collaboration with Light Farm, and is the first CGI project I have worked on.

MangaWhai Aotearoa

Last weekend was a long weekend here in New Zealand. Celebrating the Queen of England’s birthday.

Yeh, thanks for the day off and all, but I’d rather we celebrated Aotearoa.

anyway…. I had to work the weekend.

Queens birthday Monday, I just had to get out of the city, so we headed north to the bach.

I took some photo’s, had a walk on the beach while the kids climbed rocks and splashed in rock pools.

The tide drained off the bar, and the surf was pumping. No one around.

I had one of those ‘life feels really good’ moments.

These pictures were all shot on the Mamiya RZ 67 using Kodak NC160

faMily

I had a conversation the other day.

I haven’t posted anything for quite a while. Just been too much going on.

Anyway, the conversation got me thinking about my ‘family project’.

I was hoping to focus on it over summer, but ended up working. Missed out on summer too.

I shot these the other day.

Mamiya RZ. Kodak NC160.

Love the feeling on putting a roll of film into the camera

My family are the most important people in this world.

Another image I shot from a Lexus campaign last year.
Got to love the South Island of New Zealand as a location.
